HEALTH AND SAFETY IN THE OFFICE You might be fit for work, but is your office? Offices can be refreshing, stimulating places to work, or they can add greatly to the tiredness you will feel at the end of a working day. Colleagues apart, the surroundings are very important. Here are a few items for a checklist. Try scoring ‘2’ for good, ‘1’for average and ‘O’for poor and see how well your office does. LIGHTING: is there much glare on the screen of the machine you will be working at due to the room lighting or the light from the windows? SCREEN: are the characters crisp and easy to read, or are they too small, or blurred? Does the screen flicker? SEATING: are there proper operators' chairs? Can they be adjusted for height; do they have firm back supports?
