PhD Defense Jasper

Two weeks ago, Jasper successfully defended his PhD titled Intelligent Vocabulary and Example Selection for Spanish (IVESS). Congratulations on this achievement, Dr. Degraeuwe!

The defense was preceded by a workshop on ICALL (Intelligent Computer-Assisted Language Learning) in the era of Large Language Models. During the workshop, Dr. Anaïs Tack examined the impact of the recent LLMs on ICALL. Afterwards, Dr. Detmar Meurers discussed the need to connect research on Second Language Acquisition with developing language technology for language learning.

It was an afternoon filled with interesting insights and food for thought!
