Abstract

To commemorate 40 years since its inception, EURALEX organised a two-week online lecture series (https://euralex.org/euralex-40th-anniversary-lecture-series/). All ten presenters were past presidents of EURALEX. In their lectures they addressed various topics, from dictionary use, historical lexicography, AI in lexicography, as well as the past and future of EURALEX.

Each lecture/interview was followed by a one-hour session with the presenter, aimed specifically at junior lexicographers, i.e. lexicographers at the beginning of their career, who had an opportunity to ask questions, discuss their research/work, ask for advice, etc.

Gilles-Maurice de Schryver (Ghent University & University of Pretoria), EURALEX president from 2018 to 2021, was interviewed by Stefan Engelberg (Leibniz Institute for the German Language, Mannheim) on 4 October 2023, the day after his seminal ‘Generative AI and Lexicography: The Current State of the Art Using ChatGPT’ became available in advance access on the site of the International Journal of Lexicography.
