Dit eindrapport beschrijft het MaTIAS-project dat liep van juli 2023 tot december 2025 en werd uitgevoerd door een onderzoeksteam van de Universiteit Gent bestaande uit experten in meertaligheid en vertaaltechnologie. Het doel van dit project was een meertalige notificatietool te ontwikkelen voor gebruik in de opvang van verzoekers om internationale bescherming in België. MaTIAS staat voor Machine Translation to Inform Asylum Seekers, en werd gefinancierd door AMIF (het Fonds voor Asiel, Integratie en Migratie) en Fedasil (het Federaal agentschap voor de opvang van asielzoekers)1. Na afloop van het project werd het ontwikkelde prototype aan Fedasil overgedragen.
This research report (original in Dutch) describes the MaTIAS project, which ran from July 2023 to December 2025 and was carried out by a research team from Ghent University, consisting of both experts in multilingualism and translation technology. The aim of this project was to develop a multilingual notification tool for use in the reception of applicants for international protection in Belgium. MaTIAS stands for Machine Translation to Inform Asylum Seekers and was funded by AMIF (the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund) and Fedasil (the Federal Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers). At the end of the project, the prototype taht was developed was transferred to Fedasil.
