The Navez Project (2023-2027) investigates the intricate social connections within the 19th-century Brussels art scene through the lens of François-Joseph Navez, a prominent neoclassical artist and director of the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles. Utilizing digital humanities techniques, including social network and correspondence analysis, the project examines how Navez's social networks influenced his success and the broader art landscape. The research relies on computational methods to analyze extensive archival sources, aiming to visualize key social figures and relationships. This interdisciplinary effort enhances our understanding of art, education, and society in 19th-century Belgium.
