LT3 at LREC-COLING 2024

Last week LREC-COLING 2024 took place in the beautiful Italian city of Torino. Various LT3 members contributed to the entire week, and they did so in many different ways: by presenting, (remote) chairing, visiting aequa-tech's booth, cheering for Queen coverbands and offering last-minute support to our research director Veronique who was one of the conference's program chairs!*
On Monday:
- Veronique and Els co-organized the 4th Workshop on Economics and Natural Language Processing (ECONLP) at which they also presented the results of the Shared Task for Cross-lingual Classification of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Themes and Topics.
On Tuesday:
- Natalia presented her paper (joint work with Veronique and Els) on Analysing Pathos in User-Generated Argumentative Text at the PoliticalNLP 2024: Second Workshop on Natural Language Processing for Political Sciences.
On Wednesday:
- Loic presented joint work with Veronique and Orphée on Enhancing Unrestricted Cross-Document Event Coreference with Graph Reconstruction Networks
- Colin shared his work with Pranay, Ilse and Els on Lemmatisation of Medieval Greek: Against the Limits of Transformer’s Capabilities?
- Sofie presented her work with Eileen and Roman on EmoProgress: Cumulated Emotion Progression Analysis in Dreams and Customer Service Dialogues
On Thursday:
- Gustav presented his paper (joint work with Els and Katrien) At the Crossroad of Cuneiform and NLP: Challenges for Fine-grained Part-of-speech Tagging
- Jasper presented both a poster and oral presentation of his paper (joint work with Patrick) LexComSpaL2: A Lexical Complexity Corpus for Spanish as a Foreign Language
On Friday:
- Aaron delivered both a poster (Wednesday) and oral presentation on his joint work with Alessandra, Els, Cynthia and Veronique: Human and System Perspectives on the Expression of Irony: An Analysis of Likelihood Labels and Rationales
On Saturday:
- Tess, Florian and Loic presented at the LT4HALA workshop
- Tess presented her joint work with Pranay, Els and Julie on Exploring Aspect-Based Sentiment Analysis Methodologies for Literary-Historical Research Purposes
- Florian dove deeper into his joint work with Kornee and Veronique on Early Modern Dutch Comedies and Farces in the Spotlight: Introducing EmDComF and Its Emotion Framework Florian Debaene | Kornee van der Haven | Veronique Hoste
- Loic discussed his paper (joint work with Orphee and Veronique) on Unsupervised Authorship Attribution for Medieval Latin Using Transformer-Based Embeddings

For those who followed the closing session where one of the general chairs (Nicoletta Calzolari) mentioned receiving 10,000 LREC-COLING 2024 related mails over the last months. We double-checked with Veronique and as program chair her mailbox comprised no less than 11,154 mails (and counting)!
