Conference season is here and we kicked it off with 4 conferences in one week! Let’s dive in!
LTRC 2025 (Language Testing Research Colloquium)
Joni traveled all the way to Bangkok, Thailand, to present a work-in-progress on the work she does for Steunpunt Centrale Toetsen. More specifically, she talked about comparing a holistic and analytical human grading method to inform an automated scoring system.
ICTIC 5 (International Conference on Translation, Interpreting and Cognition)
A bit closer to home, Shijie and Delu Daniel attended ICTIC in Kristiansand, Norway, where Delu Daniel gave a presentation.
He talked about his pilot study on how and why re-translations quickly occur after a book’s copyright has expired in his presentation called “A Stylometric Investigation on Retranslation Frenzy in China: Human Translations vs. Machine Translations”.
Shijie’s co-author presented their shared paper called “Translator’s Cognitive Paths in Rendering Death Metaphors: A Case Study of Mo Yan’s Works in English Translation”.
NITS 2025 (Network of Interdisciplinary Translation Studies in the Netherlands and Flanders)
Even closer to home, our TransTech team was well-represented at NITS in Tilburg, The Netherlands, with oral presentations by Thomas and Ran and poster presentations by Lieve, Janiça, Eleni, Joke and Delu Daniel.
Here is an overview of the work they presented:
Finally, Cynthia and Els had a poster presentation at DHBenelux in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. They presented the LeTTuce project: a new multilingual part-of-speech tagger.
This was only the beginning. We have many more interesting conferences coming up and we’re excited to share more about the research everyone has been working on!
