LT3 at MT Summit and ICWSM 2025

Another week of conferences is in the books!

Last week, our Translation Technology team traveled to Geneva, Switzerland to attend the MT Summit. Apart from several presentations at both the main conference and workshops, some team members were also involved in organizing two of the workshops. Let’s have a look:

 

Main Conference Presentations

• In the Technical Track, Delu gave a presentation called “Decoding Machine Transalionese in English-Chinese News: LLMs vs. NMTs"
• In the Products and Projects track, Lieve gave a presentation about the MaTIAS Project called “Machine Translation to Inform Asylum Seekers: Intermediate Findings”

11th Workshop on Patent and Scientific Literature Translation (PSLT) 2025

• Thomas presented his paper titled “Tailoring Machine Translation for Scientific Literature through Topic Filtering and Fuzzy Matching”

 

2nd Workshop on Creative-text Translation and Technology (CTT) 2025

This workshop was co-organised by Lieve and included several presentations by LT3 members:

• “The role of translation workflows in overcoming translation difficulties: a comparative analysis of human and machine translation (post-editing) approaches” by Lieve, Joke and Paola
• “Does the perceived source of a translation (NMT vs. HT) impact revision quality for news and literary texts?” by Xiaoye and Joke
• “Can Pter Pan Survive MT? A stylometric study of LLMS, NMTs and HTs in children’s literature translation” by Delu and Lieve

 

3rd Workshop on Gender-Inclusive Translation Technologies (GITT) 2025

This workshop was co-organised by Janiça and Joke.

• During the workshop, Eleni gave an oral presentation about gender bias in English-to-Greek machine translation
• Janiça, Arda and Joke had a poster presentation about their paper called “Gender Bias and the Role of Context in Human Perception and Machine Translation”.
•  

At the ICWSM conference in Copenhagen, the First Workshop on Integrating NLP and Psychology to Study Social Interactions (NLPSI) took place. This workshop was co-organised by Veronique and Sofie.
