About Quanqi

I am a Ph.D researcher at Ghent University, Belgium, where I work on the project “Modelling Multimodal Emotions in Conversation”, funded by the Flanders AI Research program. My research explores how language, audio, and visual signals interact to convey emotions in communication, with a focus on building computational models that can better understand and interpret these complex emotional cues.

Prior to this, I obtained a Master's degree in Speech and Language Processing from the University of Konstanz, Germany, one of the institutions selected under Germany’s Excellence Initiative (2006, 2012, 2019). During my time there, I developed a strong foundation in computational linguistics and multimodal modelling, and completed the program six months ahead of schedule.

I received my Bachelor's in English with a concentration in Scientific English from Zhengzhou University, China, a member of both the national Project 211 and the Double First-Class Initiative (2017, 2022). My undergraduate training combined linguistics, translation, and scientific communication, laying the groundwork for my interdisciplinary approach to language and emotion.

My research interests span various aspects of NLP, including multimodal sentiment analysis, affective computing, conversational AI, and the intersection of language and emotion in both human and machine communication. I am particularly interested in how large language models can be used to interpret emotional nuance across modalities and cultures.

I am currently a visiting student at the Affective Intelligence and Robotics Lab (AFAR Lab), Department of Computer Science and Technology, University of Cambridge (March-May, 2026). If I happen to be missing from the office on Great Britain Avenue (Groot-Brittanniëlaan 45, 9000 Ghent, Belgium), I am, quite literally, somewhere in Great Britain.
